How to Choose the Right Hairstyles for Your Face

Are you bored with your current style but overwhelmed by the millions of options you come across in books, magazines and online? Sometimes its hard to visualize if a style is right for you because let’s face it– just because celebs like Amber Rose or Pink can rock a short ‘do, doesn’t mean it’s right for every one.

One way to narrow down your choices is to select a style based on the shape of your face. Here are some examples along with some celeb inspiration to get you started.

Carrie Underwood Oval face shape

Oval- With an oval head shape, your defining facial features are your high cheekbones. Most stylists equate high cheek bones with the ability to handle many different styles. Layers and bangs are your best friends. Simple long layers with a part at the center will also look great on you. You can do pixie cuts, middle length and long length styles.

KELLY CLARKSON round face shape

Round- With a round face, it’s all about balance. To avoid making your face look wide, a style with a longer bang to come across your face is suggested. Any medium length style is ideal, as you don’t want to overwhelm your face with very long hair, or opt for shorter styles that will make your head look very round. If you want something edgy, angled bobs are key. Sultry, loose waves are your go-to glam look.

Jessica Alba Heart-Shaped

Heart-Shaped – The heart shaped face has a distinctive point at the center of the forehead called a widow’s peak. With a heart-shaped face, you are the queen of up-dos, or any other style that will allow you to show off the entire shape of your face. French braids, ponytails and buns really flatter you.

Rihanna Diamond face shape

Diamond- If you have a diamond shape, your face is widest at the cheeks and pointed at the forehead and chin. That being said, you will want to look for styles that emphasize either the “top” or “bottom” of the the diamond. For emphasizing the forehead, choose a shorter bang, or pull your bang back, letting the rest of your hair fall down to your shoulders. If you choose to emphasize the “bottom”, wear your hair in layered flips or curls.

At the end of the day, the best hairstyle is one that makes you feel confident. Consult your friends, family and stylist for the best ‘do that will fit your personality and lifestyle.
